Update.

Time is passing quickly! My birthday on Monday went well. I worked in the morning and Beth came to my apartment in the afternoon. We ate pizza at one of our favorite pizza places (if anyone visits us, we'll take you there--and we'll even pay!), and then I had much reading to do. So, Beth sat in the library with me. I read, and she watched 'The Holiday' on my laptop.

Tuesday: slept-in. Classes from 4-9:30. Ate leftover Birthday cake. Listened to an audio recording of a lecture given by Thomas Merton. Beth had her first day at the restaurant as a hostess. She loved it! She had been wanting to work a place where she could dress up a little...and now she can.

Wednesday: worked in the morning, read in the afternoon, and planned for our trip to Manhattan tomorrow. I'm going to the Rare Book and Manuscript room at the Columbia University library to read over (and search through) various collected materials of Thomas Merton. He attended Columbia for his B.A. and M.A. So, since I'm doing a study on him this semester, I thought I'd look at it. Also, Beth is taking me to the Metropolitan Museum of Art (or The Met). And tomorrow, we'll ride the NYC subway for the first time!
The weather is unusually warm today: about 60F. That means we have a problem, since the heater in the library is on a set timer: hot outside, hot inside. So, as I write this, I am very warm.
