While out shopping we always get sad at the consumerism and I also get taken out either by getting pushed or hit, today was no different. It is times like this that I like to think about what really makes Christmas special and what I am thankful for, the first things I think of is our families and friends. We are truly blessed!
This year I am very thankful for my job and the clients that I serve. I recently went on a home visit where I was able to give my client empty pills bottles from Target. She is making home made ornaments with the pill bottles and hershey's kiss wrappers! She is 85 with dementia and desperately needs to put on weight, so it is myself and the nurses secret goal to get her to eat alot of chocolate to gain weight! She was moved to tears when I gave her the bottles because they are so beautiful and it will give her something to do. For our hour long visit she held onto tight to the bottles. At the end of our visit she took an ornament from her collection to let me have, it is a humble and beautiful gift!
I have another client that adores Christmas lights, she is 80 and has many complications this past year with her health, family, money, and missing family. I was able to bring them a strand of Christmas lights, which moved her to tears as well. It is things like this that make the season so wonderful and the gift of Jesus coming into the world so much more real. A humble beginning leading to great things!
Enjoy the season and all the many wonderful things that come with it!
